Clar Dwyer


Clar Dwyer is a graduate of Memorial University (B.Comm) and Dalhousie Law School (LL.B.) and has been a licensed lawyer for over 30 years. He is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland & Labrador, the ADR Institute of Atlantic Canada, and the ADR Institute of Canada. He is also associated with the Center for Innovative Dispute Resolution in St. John's. You can find out more about IDR here.

Early in his career, Clar practiced law with the firm of Dwyer, Locke & Schwartz for 15 years, then transitioned into a number of senior executive roles in the engineering, construction and oil and gas industries. He started acting as an arbitrator while continuing his practice as a lawyer, and later while working in the business world. Clar recently began his full-time arbitration and mediation practice.

Clar has been active in the business community, and has served on numerous boards and commissions. He has been a Business Representative on the Canadian Labour Task Force, a Governor of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council and a member of the Newfoundland Apprenticeship Board. He is also a past Chairman of the Newfoundland Ocean Industries Association, the Hibernia Employers Association and the Central Newfoundland Regional Tenancies Board, as well as a past Vice Chairman of the Newfoundland Construction Labour Relations Association. He was a member of the Hibernia Construction Training Coordinating Committee and a member of the LMCC Permanent Panel of Labour Arbitration Chairmen.
